It is no accident. A cigar lasts an hour and a half. No one holds a mask that long.
The cigar is not the subject of this book. It is an artefact. A sacred pretext. A key that opens a door, and the lounge is only one of the rooms behind it. There are others: a riad in Marrakech, a hammam, a forest, a desert.
This book weaves the real and the fictionalised. The men you are about to read cannot be traced — none of them can be identified, and that is deliberate. The patterns, however, are exact. I have seen them hundreds of times.
